Galen Students Shine

Galen students ‘bopped to the top’ at the Performing Arts Centre last week in their production of Disney’s well-known High School Musical.
145 Galen College students were involved in the performance and entertained a total of 1200 audience members. After many weeks of preparation, this years performers, backstage crew and musicians took part in a total of four performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (2nd – 4th May).
In the days leading up to opening night, there was a great sense of excitement as students prepared for opening night and the many weeks of preparation paid-off in what was a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining production.
Performance students portrayed their characters wonderfully, showcasing both acting and vocal talent. Backstage crew worked extremely well to deliver a seamless, professional show. Musicians were led by Galen music teacher Mr David Ashfield and their excellent renditions of key musical pieces truly brought the production to life.

Production director, Mrs Julie Nolan would like to acknowledge the wonderful words of encouragement and praise that the production team have received after the production from parents, community members and staff. “Though we acknowledge it is a great amount of work, we all experience the wonderful reward of knowing we have provided all of the students involved from backstage, make-up, set building, set painting, sound, lighting, musicians and actors with a wonderful experience and a life time memory. We were truly blessed to witness 145 young people brimming with confidence and having a ball.”  Year 8 students Charlotte Green and Kate Marshall both commented that High School Musical was “an awesome experience” because they had the opportunity to meet new people from junior to senior year levels who all have common interests.

Julie Nolan would also like to thank all who supported the production. “There is a very strong team of people behind us, continually providing support in many and varied ways. With this in mind I would like to thank the following staff who were directly involved in the production team: Paul Walker, Jeff Faithfull, David Ashfield, Beth Code, Christine Duff, and Tanya Singh from Pulsate Dance Academy. Thank you also to the following staff members who contributed behind the scenes: Helen Faithfull, Liz Orton, Sarah Pitcher, Lauren Parker and Mal Webster.
