Phase one construction at Abafala begins

abafalaphase1Dear Friends of Abafala School,

I am very happy to inform you all that construction of the first phase of the Abafala Catholic Primary School has finally begun!

Thanks to the accumulated funds raised by Catholic College Sale, Galen College Wangaratta and Notre Dame College Shepparton, together with significant grants from Catholic Funding Agencies, ‘Aid to the Church in Need’ and ‘Kindersmissionswerk’ in Germany, we finally obtained the US$150,000.00 needed to build phase one of the Abafala School Redevelopment.

This first phase consists of a new block of 3 classrooms and boys and girls toilets. Thanks to the generosity of the builder Martinus Reibus, a young Indonesian man, for the same money he has also agreed to do all the necessary groundwork for phase one and two, build a temporary 4 classroom block that can used during construction of the new building, demolish the two existing buildings and do some renovation to the staff house. It is anticipated that all the work will be completed before Christmas 2015.

The teachers, students and parents, as well as the whole Abafala community are very excited that the project has finally commenced. As you will see in the photo report (download here), the Bishop came to Abafala on Monday, 21st September to bless the first foundation of the new building. It was very moving for me to see how the whole community was involved from elders to year one students.

I will continue to keep you informed with progress reports on the construction. Please continue with your fund raising as Phase Two will involve the building of a second 4 classroom block and toilets. This will also take a while to accumulate, but we are on the way! Please continue to pray for the success of this project.

Thank you all for your generous support.

Brother Tony Clark
