Students savour Heston’s delights

Unit 4 Food Studies students recently had the opportunity to dine in luxury at Heston Blumenthal’s exclusive restaurant in Melbourne. Due to the students success in catering for guests attending the recent STEM Expo in August, Education Advantage were so impressed with their amazing dishes that they decided to reward the students for their work, paying for the group to dine in the lap of luxury! When asked to describe the experience in one word, Charlotte McKenzie and Elizabeth Sinclair both simply stated, “Exceptional” and “extraordinary!”

Egg in verjus; a panacotta and custard dessert with a chocolate shell. One of Heston’s creations that has been featured on MasterChef.

Charlotte added, “I was really impressed by the experience, from the food to the service, it was all amazing.” Elizabeth was left speechless after the evening. “The service was just so impressive, and their attention to detail was incredible. It was next level!”

The students would like to sincerely thank Education Advantage for allowing them the opportunity for the dining experience. They also expressed their gratitude to their teacher Mrs Hernandez. “Her husband also drove us down and without her support, we wouldn’t have experienced this fine occasion”.

Raising Teens – Parent Info Night

Dear Galen Parents/Guardians,

David Kobler from Yourchoicez will be coming to Galen to present a highly relevant and engaging presentation on Raising Teens in a Hyper-Sexualised Society on Wednesday 26th April at 7pm in the Galen Auditorium.

“At a time where parents can feel overwhelmed and powerless to address issues such as sex, dating, relationships and pornography there is a huge amount parents can do. David aims to address the intimate questions that parents have while empowering them to be an influential presence in their children’s lives.”

David provides information and resources to support parents to tackle some of the challenges faced in raising teens, including online safety and communicating with your adolescent.

Please find attached a flyer regarding the Parenting Seminar. The evening is for parents/carers only and places are limited so please get in quick to avoid disappointment. To RSVP please email: Lisa.Power@galen.vic.edu.au

We look forward to seeing you at this helpful and worthwhile presentation.

Year 7 Open Afternoon & Galen Parents’ Association BBQ

Dear Galen Parents/Guardians,

Next Wednesday 17th February Galen Catholic College will be hosting two important events to welcome all parents/guardians for the start of the 2016 school year.

1. The Junior school will be hosting the Year 7 OPEN AFTERNOON in the Year 7 classrooms.  This is a great opportunity for parents/guardians of Year 7 students to informally meet with their child’s Year 7 Homeroom teacher and subject teachers. Parents/Guardians and teachers are able to put a face to a name and discuss the start of their child’s transition to secondary school.

2. The Galen Parents’ Association is also organising a free BBQ on the grass area in front of the Auditorium after the first ‘Homework Hub’ on Wednesday 17 February. Students from all year levels, particularly new Year 7 students, are invited to try the Homework Centre in the library and then stay for a BBQ afterwards.

All parents are invited to the BBQ to meet other parents, teachers and students.

Please take note that the Year 7 OPEN AFTERNOON will commence at 3:45pm and finish at 4:30pm

The Galen Parents’ Association BBQ will commence at 4:30pm.

In order to cater for the event successfully may I please ask the Year 7 parents/guardians to RSVP their attendance to the Year 7 OPEN AFTERNOON via a hard copy note (provided to all year 7 students on Thursday 10th February during homeroom).

Could parents/guardians for all other year levels (Yr 8 – 12) please RSVP their attendance for the GALEN PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION BBQ on Wednesday 17th February to me via email by Friday 12th February.

I look forward to seeing as many Galen parents/guardians at both events.

Kind regards,

Patrick Arcuri
