Curriculum Departments
Galen College is a learning community committed to offering a curriculum that provides students with the values, skills and knowledge to live confidently in a rapidly changing global and technological environment.
The Curriculum is based upon :
- a belief in Christian values
- a committment that all students have talents and gifts to develop
- a desire to extend each student to achieve their potential
- an offering of a range of formal courses and extra-curriculum activities
We aim to develop young people who are confident, happy and assured, have a concern for others, live according to gospel values and have extended their abilities through social, academic and physical opportunities offered by our curriculum.
Galen College recognises that the world our young people will inherit will be one where they will need to be :
- flexible and adaptive
- concerned about environmental and social justice issues
- continually learning and updating their skills
- willing to adapt new technologies
Through our formal class based studies and extra-curriculum activities we believe that Galen students reflect our motto as young people of 'faith and integrity'.
Curriculum Structure :
Religious Education is central to our studies and is compulsory at all year levels.
Courses in Year 7 to 10 are based upon the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.
Year 7 is seen as a transition year with all students undertaking studies in all Key Learning Areas.
An elective programme is phased in through Years 8, 9 and 10.
At the Senior level, Years 11 and 12, the following options exist:
- Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE),
- Victorian Certificate in Applied Learning (VCAL)
- Vocational Education and Training (VET),
- Australian School-Based Apprenticeships (AS-bA)
