Year 9 Discovery
The Year 9 Discover Program is a new curriculum initiate at Galen aimed at engaging Year 9 Students to a great degree. Its aims are:
- To enable students to make the connections necessary for a purposeful and resilient lifestyle and to inspire them to truly enjoy their life .
- To further encourage the development of competencies needed for functioning effectively in society and the environment.
- To further recognise and develop the different learning styles of our students.
- To provide opportunities for students to make connections between their learning and real life experiences and the challenges we face in our world.
- To empower students with value-based decision making and problem solving competencies that will equip them to participate in the emerging patterns of work and to contribute to political, economic, social and environmental issues.
- To foster life-long learning principles of negotiation, responsibility, ownership, calculated risk taking and self-reflection.
- To further develop in students an environmental conscience that evokes a sense of responsibility and stewardship for our planet.
- To generate a model of communal teamwork by reinforcing the collaboration between the student, their peer group, school, family and the wider community.
