Junior Library
"A Distinctive Feature of the Junior School"
The Junior library at Galen is a purpose-built facility catering for years 7 and 8 students. The library is the central feature of the junior school surrounded by year eight homerooms and the year seven rooms are built onto the library. The library is architecturally pleasing to the eye, with interesting shapes, lots of windows and bright vibrant colours. The large open plans offers both space for classroom lessons with tables, chairs, computers and books; and also a more tranquil place with comfortable lounge chairs, cushions, chess tables in a relaxed atmosphere.
The friendly ambience of the library entices many students to take advantage of the wealth of activities available. Board games, chess, cards, magazines, daily newspapers, jigsaws and much more are on offer to the students. Before school, lunchtime and after school the library is a hive of activity.
The collection is hand picked to suit the reading and research needs of the junior school students. A close liaison with teaching staff ensures the collection meets the current VELS curriculum standards. Whilst, the fiction collection is carefully selected to meet the recreational reading demands of this age group and ranges from latest releases to classics. Picture story and audio books are also available to facilitate further enjoyment of reading. Constantly changing displays further enhance the ambience of the library and delight the students as they see their work showcased for all to admire. State of the art equipment provides staff and students with the technology to enhance teaching and learning. The plasma screen is a wonderful tool for student’s power point presentations and viewing audio visual material.
The Junior library is a wonderful asset to Galen, but particularly to the Junior School as it is pivotal to the students school life both educationally and recreationally.
