STUDENT BORROWING POLICY :
The Resource Centres have as a priority the encouragement of reading promotion programs which support both the English department curriculum and student reading enjoyment through the provision of a wide range of fiction resources.
The English department in consultation with the library staff has adopted the following policy in order to ensure all students have access to fiction materials appropriate to their interests and maturity. A small number of books has been designated Senior Fiction because of the nature of the subject matter.
YEAR 7 STUDENTS:
Borrow only from the Junior library. If a duplicate copy of a Junior library book is available in the Senior library but not the Junior library, a Year 7 student may borrow the Senior library copy.YEAR 8 STUDENTS:
Same as Year 7 students.
However, in Semester 2 students may borrow from the Senior Library at the discretion of their English teacher or the librarian. Books designated Senior Fiction are normally only available to Year 10, 11 & 12 students. Year 8 students may borrow a particular Senior Fiction title only after the Senior Fiction Borrowing Request Form has been signed by the student’s parent(s) and returned to the libraries.YEAR 9 STUDENTS:
Year 9 students may borrow a particular Senior Fiction title only after the Senior Fiction Borrowing Request Form has been signed by the student’s parent(s) and returned to the libraries.
Senior Fiction Request Form is available at the Senior Library.
Non–Fiction resources may be borrowed from both libraries by all students.
STUDENT OVERDUE BOOKS POLICY:
Student loans are normally two weeks, with assignment resources, charts and audiovisuals on overnight loan. All overnight loans must be returned prior to 9 a.m. Videos and DVDs in particular should not be left in lockers or school bags. All resources are stamped with the due return date. Resources may be returned, re-borrowed, or reserved in either library.
Overdue reminder lists are printed weekly. Homeroom teachers remind students, send students to library and/or put the list on the notice board.
After 7 days overdue, students will receive an individual email with a warning that computer access will be denied. Their names will still be on the homeroom overdue list.
After 14 days overdue, students are removed from the Galen network system, they are advised by individual emails and relevant staff are also advised of the students status
Accounts for long-term over dues are posted out in the last week of each term/semester.
Any student not abiding by the above policy will have restricted borrowing and networking rights until the situation is resolved.
