Students
Student Representative Council (SRC)
Purpose
The SRC’s function as an assembly where student views can be responsibly and representatively debated and formulated. Three separate SRC’s operate at Junior, Middle and Senior levels, each with their respective Director. They can then act as a consultative instrument for the school authorities; it should thus facilitate two-way communication between Principal, staff, students and parent groups with the aim of building up a united school community.
Areas of Responsibility
Recommend changes that will benefit the school community. These could be in many areas such as:
- Discovery of ways of improving relations between students (ie senior and junior classes).
- Promotion, organisation and channelling of student initiatives in diverse fields (eg student newspaper, sporting groups, drama groups).
- Discovery of ways of improving student/staff relations (eg provision of more occasions for informal contacts).
- Assistance in discussion of and implementation of courses of study and other aspects of the curriculum.
- Devising disciplinary structures and regulations which are appropriate to the differing maturity levels throughout the school, and which will help students gradually achieve self direction and self-discipline.
- Liaise with students from other schools, particularly those where students will eventually come to Galen.
- To organise social and charitable activities within the student body (eg special appeals, walkathons, excursions, socials. In this connection, the SRC will remember that it has a grave responsibility to ensure that the school community is alive to the needs of society, especially the underprivileged and that it meets its Christian obligations towards them.
- To take an active responsibility for student behaviour and supervision wherever appropriate.
