Dear Parents and Guardians,
Galen Catholic College School Board is seeking expressions of interest from parents who wish to serve on the Board or perhaps on one of the Board sub-committees. There is a list of the Board sub-committees provided below.
You will be aware that the constitution of the Board was significantly revised last year and the new constitution will be ratified at the Annual General Meeting on 2nd May. The new constitution provides for increased number of parents on the school Board. Another significant change is that new Board members will be appointed following an “expression of interest” process rather than the previous election and voluntary voting arrangement.
This will herald a change in the governance arrangements of the college and it becomes more important that we continue to have a broad representation of committed parents on the Board.
Although the timing is co-incidental, the Sandhurst Catholic Education Office has recently released a new strategy aimed at increasing the parent leadership and family
engagement across all schools in the diocese. Further information will be provided on this separately. However future action coming out of this strategy will be enhanced by the changes in governance arrangements occurring at Galen Catholic College at present.
If you are interested in lodging an expression of interest in becoming a Board member,
or in joining one of the Board sub-committees, please contact my Personal Assistant,
Mrs Tess Barnard, by one of the following means:
• Email: firstname.lastname@example.org • Phone: 5721 6322
Tess will then forward you an information pack that will explain the process of appointment as a member of the Board and provide some background to the Board itself.
Board sub-committees: • Catholic Identity • Leadership • Stewardship of Resources • Pastoral Wellbeing • Learning & Teaching

As well as the important information calling for expressions of interest from parents who are interested in joining the school Board, I would like to acknowledge two outstanding Galen events that have occurred in the past week.
The first is the inaugural Galen Talent Show, “Anything Goes”, held in the WPAC last Tuesday evening. Congratulations to the students who made up the 23 musical and dance items, to the four Year 12 MC’s – Ben, Michael, Brigid and Ben – and to the prime organisers, Mrs Kirsty Woods, Mrs Helen Faithfull, Mrs Julie Nolan and Mr David Ashfield. This was truly an event to remember with the quality of the performances having to be seen to be believed: the production values, the quality of singing and dancing, the level of planning and execution were excellent.
The second event of note was the Galen Athletics Carnival, held on Tuesday 26th March. There was an excellent level of involvement from the students, and, like the Talent Show, a huge effort in planning and organization from staff, this time led by Ms Carly Bilke.
It is no wonder that we keep repeating the catch-phrase “Proud to be Galen”.
May you enjoy a happy, reflective and holy Easter time.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
