From the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday we celebrated one of the rare occasions each year when we gather as a whole school: the celebration on this occasion was for Founders’ Day when we acknowledge our heritage and wonderful contributions to the Galen spirit made by the Marist Brothers and Brigidine sisters.

In a colourful and musical celebration, our liturgy adopted the theme “One Body, One Spirit in Christ – Called to Action”. Our Senior SRC Captains, Candace O’Keefe and Henry Dayman, led the liturgy.    In my address to the students, I exhorted all students to pick up the theme by having the courage to act whenever they see that something is not right: to Do Something About It! Our guest speaker from the Brigidine sisters, Sr Cecilia Merrigan spoke about her time in the role of Deputy Principal at Galen when it was first formed as a school.

Year 10 (2012) Information Night
The Year 10 (2012) Information Night is scheduled for next Wednesday 31st August. I encourage all parents with a child currently in Year 9 to attend the Information Night and become actively involved in the subject selection process.

Insight SRC
During the week starting 5th September, Galen will be participating in the annual school surveys conducted by Insight SRC. Most Catholic and government schools in Victoria participate in this survey which provides excellent data on key aspects of a school’s operations.
At Galen, all staff, 150 students and 60 parents randomly selected will have the chance to provide feedback as part of this survey. This is something that Galen takes very seriously as part of its’ commitment to continuous improvement.

We have already seen many changes and improvements come out of the previous surveys and we are keen to continue this process following this year’s survey.

I offer thanks to those randomly selected parents who have agreed to complete the survey.

Regards

Bernard Neal
