VEX win Community Award at Nationals Adelaide

Congratulations to the 2019 VEX Robotics teams on another excellent year and managing to walk away with the Community Award from the Nationals Competition in Adelaide last weekend – after an epic 12-hour bus trip just to get there!

While Galen didn’t secure a place for the upcoming Worlds USA, the North East is still represented by Wodonga Middle Years and two other Albury teams. The Galen teams extend their congratulations to them.

The Nationals hosted 105 teams from all over Australia with approximately 1000 competitors, around 500 teachers, parents and guests.

54 teams were involved in the VRC senior competition, with Wodonga Middle Years winning the Middle Years Excellence Award (the highest award) coming 8th overall in the final rankings and narrowly missing out in the quarter finals.

Galen’s team 48327W came 14th, and team 48327M came 48th overall, with both missing the finals. Borinya’s VRC TEAM came 42nd. Which is a great result.

In the VEX IQ junior completion, Albury’s St Anne’s Team Apollo won the junior excellence award, securing a place for Worlds USA. They had a final ranking of 19th with their other team Vexinators also ranking 19th. Albury’s ARC bots (Albury Robotics Club) won the Design Award, so they are off to worlds too with a final ranking of 13th.

Borinya did an awesome job coming in at 16th place. A fantastic effort from them!

Galen team 48327T came in 20th, and just scraped into the finals as the top 20.

Other Galen IQ teams ranked 28th and 30th.

The Galen teams all had a fabulous time and they are all fired up for next season.

Notably, Galen’s volunteers also did an excellent job commentating, refereeing, assisting with tech and of course Galen’s own Maddy doing an fantastic job as Judge Advisor. Ford Engineer Emma Peel, forwarded the following message to the college, “Maree, so lovely to see you and the Galen VEX crew again. Your very own Maddy was fantastic in her role as Judge Advisor. Led us well and calmly resolved curevballs as they came.”

Congratulations to Galen’s VEX Teams on another very busy year. You’ve all once again shone and have proudly represented the college, capably led by your dedicated teachers, Ms Timms and Mr Webbers. Well done to you all!
