On Tuesday 26th July the Year 7 boys footy played Sacred Heart in their annual challenge match. Having been on the receiving end of a comprehensive thrashing last year, the Galen boys were determined to make amends in 2011. In what turned out to be a fantastic match of junior footy, no more than one goal separated the two teams all day until halfway through the last quarter when Sacred Heart kicked a couple of unanswered goals to win by 7 points, 7.10.52 to Galen’s 6.9.45. The game was played in great spirit, with both teams using the ball well by hand and foot. Thomas Kukulka was outstanding in the ruck, winning most hit-outs and picking up a lot of possessions around the ground. On ballers, Will Nolan and Fletcher Stewart were all class around the packs. Both boys were good in and under, and used the ball well when in space. Gareth Boak was another to impress, dominating at the stoppages and showing plenty of courage to win the contested ball. In defence, James Gibson, Sam Westra and Jayden Bear read the ball well and provided great rebound. James Bennett was another who never stopped trying for the whole four quarters. Thanks to Michael Clark who has done a great job as coach of the Yr 7 football team this year. The help of Ben Talarico, Dylan Landgren and Jeremy Nankervis was also much appreciated.
